Big Ten

The Big Ten Conference organizes college athletic competition among 18 member universities in the United States. Its schools compete in NCAA Division I, and conference play spans football, men's and women's basketball and a wide range of other sports across the academic year.

Big Ten membership now reaches from the East Coast to the West Coast, which is one reason the conference describes its footprint as coast to coast. For anyone planning to attend, that geographic spread matters: conference games are played in campus stadiums and arenas in many different states, and the conference also stages neutral-site championship events.

The Big Ten Football Championship Game is played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 2026 game is scheduled for December 5. The conference has also announced that the 2027 Big Ten women's basketball tournament will be held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 3-7, 2027. Championship events like these are ticketed separately from regular-season campus games, and the participating teams are only known once the season plays out.

A competition has a texture of its own: the calendar, the size of the venues, the travelling support and the stakes attached to a single fixture all differ between leagues and conferences, and they shape the evening more than any individual result does.

Fixture context is worth reading before you go. A mid-table meeting and a rivalry or conference-deciding match can take place in the same building and feel like different sports, largely because of who travels and how much is riding on the outcome.

Venue variety is part of the appeal. Competitions that span many cities move you between very different buildings — capacity, sightlines, transit and pre-match routines all change — so treat each venue as its own trip rather than assuming a league-wide template.

Choose the fixture first, then the seat. In a multi-team competition the same seat category can cost very differently depending on the opponent and the point in the calendar, so decide which match you actually want to see before comparing prices.

Read the host venue's layout for every match. Member clubs and programmes play in buildings with different level names, entrances and supporter areas; a section name that means one thing at one venue can mean something else at another.

Put every option on an all-in basis for your exact quantity. That is the only fair comparison, and it prevents fees from quietly reordering your shortlist.

Treat later-round or postseason plans as provisional. Where a competition's later rounds depend on results that have not happened yet, budget for them separately rather than assuming a fixture will exist.
