Mastodon Plays Secret Atlanta Warmup Gig with Baroness’ John Baizley
Mastodon performed a surprise hometown tour warmup in Atlanta, featuring live debuts, rare tracks, and a guest appearance by Baroness' John Baizley.

In 2024, Mastodon played an intimate hometown warmup for their tour under the name Big Hairy Elephant. Last night, they did it again, this time at Atlanta's Earl with Baroness' John Baizley.
The fellow Georgia metal musician previously played with Mastodon in 2010, filling in for Bill Kelliher. The set commenced with a live debut of "Barbarians Blood" from Marrow Deep , which came out just a couple weeks ago and sparked a lawsuit from Brent Hinds' estate. They also performed that album's "In The Ruins" and "Poisonous Weapons" for the first time, and played "Curl Of The Burl" for the first time since 2013, "Colony Of Birchmen" for the first time since 2018, and "Oblivion" for the first time since 2019.
The Poisonous Weapons Tour with Deafheaven and Alcest officially begins Wednesday in Orlando. Today marks 20 years of their third album/major-label debut Blood Mountain . Check out footage and the setlist from last night below.
