Diablo Netflix adaptation

Taking over the Anaheim Convention Center in Los Angeles, the Blizzcon 2026 Opening Ceremony started with an introduction from Blizzard president Johanna Faries before she confirmed that action role-playing game Diablo was being turned into an animated Netflix series.

“After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens. A new animated series set in the world of ‘Diablo’ is in development with Netflix,” they explained in a statement. “More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes.”

Diablo 5

And that wasn’t the only big Diablo news either. Diablo 4 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 this week (September 15) and includes all the recent expansions.

Diablo 5 is also in the works. The latest in the long-running fantasy series is due to launch early 2029 and is set a century after the events of 2023’s Diablo 4 . “For the first time, players will enter a Sanctuary where Diablo has triumphed and its heroes have been defeated,” Blizzard explained. “At the heart of Diablo 5 lies a defining question: what must you become when the world has already fallen?” You can check out a short teaser below:

World Of Warcraft: Forever

Away from Sanctuary, Blizzard announced World Of Warcraft: Forever will launch in November. The new game mode is set during World Of Warcraf t’s first year but will evolve differently to the ongoing online role-playing title.

“ World of Warcraft: Forever invites past, current, and new players into a familiar yet fresh Azeroth where the world takes center stage, community comes first, and the journey matters as much as the destination,” reads a brief description. An open-beta test will take place later this week (September 17).

Starcraft

Blizzard is set to reboot the StarCraft franchise. After two real-time-strategy titles (1998’s StarCraft and the 2010 sequel), the new StarCraft will be an open-world, story-driven sci-fi shooter that takes place decades after the events of StarCraft 2 .

“The sons and daughters of the Dominion answered the call when mankind needed them most. Their courage held the line. Their sacrifice bought us another day. Now the call comes to you. Carry their strength forward. No matter the cost,” reads a tease on the official StarCraft website.

Gaming fans shouldn’t get too excited though. The project is still in early development and is expected to launch in 2030.

In other news, K-pop stars and  NME  cover alumni   LE SSERAFIM returned to headline BlizzCon last night (September 13), three years after they last closed out the weekend-long event in 2023.
