Over the weekend, Blizzard Entertainment confirmed they were rebooting the beloved StarCraft franchise . The original game in the series was released in 1998 before a sequel followed in 2010. While both those titles were real-time strategy games, the new StarCraft will be an open-world, story-driven sci-fi shooter.

The game is still in the early stages of development and is expected to launch at some point in 2023. However, Blizzard have shared a three-minute teaser trailer, soundtracked by some gnarly industrial music.

The video has already racked up more than 3.4million views on YouTube and was shared on social media by Doom 2016 composer Mick Gordon, with fans speculating that he’s behind the dread-inducing metal that can be heard throughout.

However Blizzard’s principle music producer Charlotte Pyle has now confirmed that the Finishing Move team did the music for the StarCraft reveal trailer with some “early thematic work” from Gordon.

“This was a special project to score the music for,” said Finishing Move’s Alex Klingle. “Spent countless hours playing StarCraft 2 with my friends as a teenager.” Finishing Move soundtracked Doom: The Dark Ages and have also worked on the soundtracks for Borderlands 4 , The Callisto Protocol and Grounded 2 .

Meanwhile, Mick Gordon is set to tour his Doom soundtrack for the very first time next year . The first confirmed date is a headline slot at Manchester’s RADAR Festival next summer. As well as utilising his custom made instrument the Doom Machine, he’ll be joined by a full live band and an orchestra. “This isn’t a DJ set, and it isn’t a tribute act. It’s the actual composer, the actual score – the riffs played properly loud in a room that can withstand all the ripping and tearing. Mick has never performed this music live like this [before],” said festival organisers.

Elsewhere at BlizzCon, Blizzard confirmed Diablo 5 would be launching in 2029 while a new, nostalgic World Of Warcraft game mode is coming this November
