2Pac Murder Trial Becomes Focus of New Crime Documentary

A documentary tracking 2Pac’s murder trial is in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Propagate Content and Passion Pictures have greenlit a true crime film following the conviction of Duane “Keffe D” Davis for orchestrating the shooting of the West Coast rap legend in September 1996.

Marian Mohamed is onboard to direct the feature documentary, which will take viewers inside the Las Vegas courthouse for one of entertainment’s most high-profile unsolved murders that netted a conviction three decades later.

“I want this film to give a voice to a family who are not just grieving, but who have taken back agency in how the murder of 2Pac is viewed,” Mohamad said in a statement. “Most importantly, I want this film to make people laugh and cry and argue. I want whoever watches this to emotionally connect with not just the story of how 2Pac died but with who he was.”

The documentary is slated to feature contributions and interviews from Shakur’s inner circle and family members, including his brother Mopreme Shakur, as well as never before seen footage tied to the death of the Death Row icon. The untitled work will air in 2027 on Sky Documentaries and NOW.

“Few mysteries have captured public curiosity quite like the murder of Tupac. This remarkable film takes audiences inside this extraordinary moment with the people who have lived with the questions, the loss, and the search for answers from the very beginning,” Howard T. Owens, who serves as the co-CEO of Propagate Content, added in a statement.

Davis was arrested in 2023 after prosecutors unveiled a sprawling indictment against the former Crips gang leader, claiming he orchestrated the attack on Shakur in response to Death Row and Bloods jumping Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, at a Mike Tyson fight earlier in the night on Sept. 7, 1996. The rap legend passed away six days after the drive-by shooting in Las Vegas at 25 years old.

Throughtout the past, the 63-year-old has been open about his affiliations to Pac’s death, which he spilled in a 2019 memoir and numerous media appearances.

Prosecutors called 24 witnesses to the stand across two weeks of trial in August before Davis was convicted of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon on Aug. 31. Davis will face up to life in prison when he’s sentenced on Oct. 13.
