After two beloved Marvel’s Spider-Man games, developers Insomniac moved on to Marvel’s Wolverine , which “delivers an all-new original story based on the legendary comic book character.”
Critics weren’t impressed with Marvel Wolverine ’s more linear story especially when compared to the open-world freedom of Marvel’s Spider-Man . Some also took issue with accessibility features that make the game too easy and “ boring ” combat.
Marvel’s Wolverine is currently the worst-reviewed game in Insomniac history. “We have been 100 per cent listening over the last few days and the team has been cooking hard today in response to some of the feedback – in case you were wondering what that smell out of our kitchen was,” community lead James Stevenson wrote on X.

But all of that negativity hasn’t stopped players from enjoying Marvel’s Wolverine . The game currently has 4.82 star rating out of 5 on the official PlayStation store page, with more than 25,000 owners of the game leaving positive feedback. Marvel’s Wolverine is also the second best-selling game on the PS Store, sitting in between EA Sports FC 27 and Grand Theft Auto 6 .
“Reviews are not everything. A game can be fun and sell millions of units even if it didn’t get the highest score by critics,” wrote one fan on Reddit with others claiming the title was perfect for more casual gamers. “I don’t think someone has to be a ‘casual gamer’ to enjoy this game,” argued another. “I’m far from casual and I enjoy it. I’ve beaten all of the Dark Souls games and Elden Ring multiple times. I’ve got 1,400 hours on Path Of Exile 2 . I’m loving this game. Is the combat deep? Absolutely not. But I find it satisfying and fun and have been still enjoying it and don’t regret my purchase.”
“It’s a power fantasy. Frankly I think it’s how Wolverine should feel in the Insomniac universe. Nobody wants to play this and feel like they are shitty at being Wolverine,” said another fan.
Wolverine actor Liam McIntyre took to social media shortly after Marvel’s Wolverine was released to thank fans for the “amazing” support. “We spent years trying to build something we were all proud of. This has been the honour of a lifetime,” he added.
“Logan’s journey to find himself in Marvel’s Wolverine mirrors how we have long strived to make games that will resonate with players for years to come, and we’re proud to have crafted an original interactive story alongside our friends at Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment,” said Marvel Games’ Haluk Mentes. “Our goal was to give fans a fresh and immersive way to experience this iconic character unlike ever before.”
In other news, Zach Cregger’s take on iconic survival horror franchise Resident Evil has become the highest-rated video game movie of all time .
