HorsegiirL Shares Healing Playlist for The Cover: ‘Music So Hard It Will Heal You’

Stella Stallion makes history as the first horse to appear on The Cover , NME ’s weekly spotlight on the best and brightest emerging artists. The half-horse, half-human producer-DJ was profiled by Alex Rigotti and photographed by Michael Anthony Baumann in Berlin exclusively for NME – check it out here .

For The Cover , HorsegiirL has curated ‘Music So Hard It Will Heal You’, a rejuvenating playlist of bangers that mixes nightcore, Eurodance, the internet-iconic ‘Caramelldansen’ and anthems from her own discography. Stream it on Apple Music here and on Spotify below:

Discernible in the playlist is HorsegiirL’s love of fast-paced dance music styles like hardstyle and happy hardcore, which she would play in Berlin clubs early on in her career, though those genres were perceived as “this lower-class music from the 2000s that never had been allowed in more prestigious techno clubs”.

Her feelings towards genre snobbery aside, HorsegiirL cited growing up in Germany as a “brown horse” as a reason why she “never felt a hundred per cent represented in [German techno]”. She added, “I think there’s a deep part of me that, because I felt I was never part of mainstream German society, learned to accept that and be like… you know what? Either way I will stand out, so I might as well embrace it.”
