JAY-Z Accuser Recants Allegations, States They Are "No Truth"
In a declaration for JAY-Z's malicious prosecution lawsuit, a Jane Doe accuser has recanted, stating there is "no truth" to her allegations and admitting the artist "never raped me." She had previously been dropped from the lawsuit.
A woman who accused JAY-Z of raping her in 2000, when she was 13 years old, has fully recanted her allegations and admitted that the claims in her 2024 lawsuit were false, reports Rolling Stone .
“Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me,” the Jane Doe wrote in a 12-page declaration filed in Manhattan federal court on Thursday, September 24th. “I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter. Mr. Carter never engaged in any inappropriate conduct toward me whatsoever.”

She continued, “There is no truth to any of my claims against Mr. Carter. I understand my false accusations have caused Mr. Carter immense pain, suffering, and damage that can never be fully undone.”

“I never received any threat from Mr. Carter or anyone acting on his behalf,” the woman stated, adding that she was neither promised nor did she receive any compensation for the declaration.

In December 2024, the Jane Doe filed a lawsuit accusing JAY-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her at a 2000 MTV VMAs afterparty. The suit was originally filed against Combs that October and amended to add JAY-Z as a co-defendant.
From the beginning, JAY-Z described the suit as “blackmail,” targeting her attorney, Tony Buzbee, as a “deplorable human” who seems to “exploit people for personal gain.”
In the new declaration, the woman gave context to the events that put the allegation in motion, stating that she responded to a Facebook ad in late September or early October 2024 calling for people with sexual assault claims against Combs. According to the Jane Doe, she filled out a form and received a call asking for more information.

However, she did not authorize the initial lawsuit against Combs. Instead, Buzbee filed it “without conducting any independent investigation, background inquiry, or due diligence, and without obtaining any corroboration of the allegations.”
“In January 2025, I began to doubt my claims against Mr. Carter. I also began doubting that I ever went to a party with celebrities,” the Jane Doe wrote in the declaration.
Indeed, in an interview with NBC News conducted shortly after the suit against JAY-Z was filed, the woman admitted she made “some mistakes” in her recollections of the events. The lawsuit was later voluntarily dismissed in February 2025.
Following that dismissal, JAY-Z filed a malicious prosecution and defamation lawsuit against Buzbee, his law firm, and the Jane Doe. However, the new declaration was filed alongside a notice that JAY-Z was voluntarily dismissing the woman as a defendant in the action.

In a statement, the woman’s new lawyer, James Blair Newman, Jr., said, “Our client maintains that she was a victim of sexual assault, but she was entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr. Carter, and those allegations were false. Mr. Carter did not rape her, sexually assault her, engage in any inappropriate conduct towards her, and she has never met him.”
Buzbee responded to the declaration by stating that he had not yet reviewed the filing. Noting that the woman had previously given multiple lawyers the same account of the events, he said, “If for some reason now she is claiming she lied to us and the court, that’s new information.”
