KATSEYE Prepares for SNL Debut, New Promo Released Without Sophia

Making your Saturday Night Live debut is nothing to laugh about.

In a new promo for this weekend’s SNL season 52 premiere , musical guests KATSEYE join host New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson, and even though cast member Marcello Hernandez wants them all to loosen up, they can’t help but “lock in” instead.

“First time hosting! Ready to have some fun?” Hernandez asks the reigning NBA Finals champ.

“Nah, I’m locked in,” a stone-faced Brunson responds, with Hernandez countering, “No, bro, this isn’t the Finals. You don’t have to lock in; you can just loosen up. Back me up, KATSEYE,” he says, looking to the global girl group for their support.

But they’re just as focused as Brunson is. “We’re locked in,” Lara responds with an icy stare — though one member of KATSEYE appears to be on Hernandez’s side. As Daniela offers up a goofy grin to the comedian, Lara clears her throat and hisses “Daniela!,” prompting her bandmate to “lock in” with the other women.

One woman not in the promo: KATSEYE’s Sophia, who announced a hiatus from the group in August but whose status for this weekend’s SNL was unknown. The original announcement said she’d be sitting out the first leg of their Wildworld Tour in September, but hadn’t clarified whether she might return for the North American dates, set to begin Oct. 13 in Miami.

Both Brunson and KATSEYE are making their Saturday Night Live debuts this weekend, with the for-now-quartet promoting their Billboard 200-topping WILD album and the Knicks star taking a victory lap after bringing the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy back to New York in June.
