Mia Joy Returns with New Single "Comet" Featuring Peel Dream Magazine

It's been too long since we've heard from Mia Joy, the Chicago musician whose dreamy debut album Spirit Tamer came out back in 2021. She followed that with the 2023 EP Celestial Mirror , and then nothing. Now, she's back with "Comet," a lovely collaboration with fellow indie-pop auteur Peel Dream Magazine.

"Comet" is a slow, twinkly blissout that sounds a bit like Stereolab covering the Sundays, or like Cat Power joining the High Llamas. It's a standalone single for now, but Mia Joy apparently has more new music in the works. Peel Dream Magazine released the mini-album Taurus last year, and frontman Joe Stevens recently appeared on the mixtape version of Winter's "hide-a-lullaby." In a press release, he says:

> I've been a fan of Mia's for a while now. I first saw her live at Lodge Room in LA where I used to work, and we got to play together in Chicago last year at Empty Bottle, which was a great time. We worked on this remotely, sending stems back and forth, and the song started taking shape in a really organic way... The final version is so warm and nostalgic. I'm happy it's finally out in the world.
