Pixies joined by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder for ‘Wave Of Mutilation’

Pixies have brought out Pearl Jam ‘s Eddie Vedder to perform ‘Wave Of Mutilation’ in California. Check out the footage below.

The moment took place at this year’s instalment of Ohana Festival, which was curated by Vedder and held at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California over the weekend.

On Sunday (September 27), Pixies took to the main stage for a stripped back set with 16 songs including ‘Gouge Away’ , ‘Debaser’, ‘Here Comes Your Man’, ‘Where Is My Mind?’ and covers of both The Jesus And Mary Chain’s ‘Head On’ and ‘In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song’ by Peter Ivers and David Lynch.

For their rendition of ‘Wave Of Mutilation’ – which featured on their huge 1989 album ‘Doolittle’ – frontman Frank Black introduced it as “a little nautical song” which was fitting to break out while they were “here by the beach”.

He also told the crowd that they were “going to do it with the host with the most”, Eddie Vedder. Check out their duet on the song below.

Vedder has a long history with Pixies, and has even previously named their ‘Surfer Rosa’ album as one of his all-time favourite records in a 2022 interview with Far Out .

“Pixies were huge for me,” he said at the time. “Frank Black, or Black Francis, as he was called at the time, had this voice, he just let it loose. He’d let it rip, and weird shit would happen.”

He continued: “It seemed not so much rebellious, but just free in the way he could just make sounds like ‘aie! aie! aie!’ and still get his point across… He was liberating himself with his voice. David Byrne was the same way. I’ve never really been able to do that. Well, I think I have sometimes, but not like that”.

The outlet also shared a feature piece in 2023 , recalling how Vedder sought out advice from Pixies as Pearl Jam was on the rise – with drummer David Lovering organising a meet-up with Vedder, himself, and his wife who worked as a publicist for Epic Records.

Reminiscing on what was said at the meeting, Lovering told Louder Sound : “I just wanted him to be confident about everything. When we parted I didn’t think too much about it, I was just like, It’s just another band. And I was quite wrong about that, because Pearl Jam just took off and got huge almost immediately it seemed.”

In other Pixies news, earlier this summer the band caught up with NME backstage at Mad Cool 2026 and responded to Dave Grohl ’s recent claim that their seminal debut ‘Surfer Rosa’ is “the perfect record”.

As for Pearl Jam, the grunge icons also performed at Ohana Festival 2026 , and brought out longtime Paul McCartney drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. behind the kit following Matt Cameron leaving the group after 27 years .

Their most recent studio album, ‘Dark Matter’, arrived in 2024. NME awarded it four stars , praising the band for delivering “some of their most impressive musicianship yet” and showing “a determination to take risks after years of playing it safe”.
