Spotify adds share cards, setlist playlists, and a new in-app destination to its Reserved ticketing feature

Spotify is adding three features to Reserved , the ticketing program that holds up to two tour tickets for an artist’s most engaged fans to buy ahead of the general on-sale.

Fans who receive a Reserved offer will get personalized share cards, while ticket holders will get pre- and post-show setlist playlists and a single in-app destination for their Reserved content.

The features start rolling out on Thursday (September 24), with setlists arriving for participating artist tours as their show dates begin.

The share cards come in pairs: one when a fan is selected for a Reserved offer, and a second once the tickets have been secured.

Each card carries the fan’s name, the artist, show details, and Reserved badging, and can be posted to social channels or dropped into a group chat, Spotify said.

The setlist playlists are sourced from setlist.fm and unlock on a ticket holder’s event page once Reserved tickets have been purchased.

Before a show, the playlist is built from what the artist has been playing on tour. After it, the event page reflects the tracks that were actually performed, with playlists refreshing after each date.

The third feature is an in-app destination that gathers a fan’s share cards, setlists, event details, venue information, and past performances in one place, according to Spotify .

Recent Reserved offers have covered artists including Role Model , Miley (formerly billed as Miley Cyrus ), Skillet , beabadoobee , Jonas Brothers , Brett Eldredge , John Summit , Young Thug , and Metallica .

“Reserved is just the latest way Spotify is helping bring you closer to live music,” the company said in a blog post announcing the update.

Reserved launched in the US on June 18 under a multi-year deal with Live Nation , with purchases processed through Ticketmaster .

Indie-pop artist Role Model was the first act on the program.

Spotify extended Reserved to Premium subscribers in Canada , its first market outside the US , on August 17 , starting with Jonas Brothers dates.

Reserved identifies an artist’s most engaged fans using signals including streams, saves, and shares, then holds dedicated ticket inventory for them rather than carving it out of another presale pool.

The feature runs in the US and Canada , sits within the standard Premium subscription at no additional cost, and is open to subscribers aged 18 and older.

“This felt to us like such a core thing that all music fans would really value, that it’s something that it’s best in our premium subscription,” Charlie Hellman , Spotify ‘s SVP and Global Head of Music, told MBW in May.

setlist.fm , the fan-built concert database the new playlists draw on, has been owned by Live Nation since 2012 .

On Live Nation ‘s Q2 earnings call, President and CEO Michael Rapino described the Spotify deal as a way to make money from presale inventory , likening it to the promoter’s tie-ups with brands including Verizon and Citi .

“If Spotify was willing to compensate us properly for access to some presale tickets, we think it’s a great win-win for both sides,” Rapino said. “It’s a very small allocation on a global basis…”

Spotify says its live music efforts have driven more than USD $1.5 billion in ticket sales for artists to date, working with more than 40 ticketing partners.

The company has also said that the top 2% of an artist’s monthly streaming audience – what it calls “super listeners” – accounts for 50% of all artist ticket sales through the platform.

“It’s our way of saying thank you, and bringing fans closer to the artists they love,” Spotify said of Reserved in the blog post. Music Business Worldwide
