Stephen Curry Inks $116 Million, Two-Year Extension With Warriors

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension with the franchise, with a player option in 2028-29, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Friday.

Heading into his 18th season, Curry agreed to take $20 million less than his maximum salary, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks, accepting a deal that gives the Warriors significant cap space next summer.

On Aug. 29, Curry became eligible for an extension of up to two years and $136.7 million off his current one-year, $62.6 million expiring deal. The Warriors immediately presented him with several options, team sources told ESPN, including max money, slightly smaller pay cuts or the ability to decide later, depending on what the front office could eventually generate with extra flexibility.

Curry, 38, had contemplated the choices for nearly a month and told ESPN on Wednesday that he wanted "no drama" with the team entering the season.

The Warriors begin practice next week in Hawaii and open the regular season Oct. 21 in Los Angeles against the Lakers.

Curry, who is entering his 18th NBA season, was limited to 43 games last season because of persistent pain and swelling in his right knee but still averaged 26.6 points on 46.8% from the floor to go with 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds. While in San Diego this week at a team function organized by teammate Jimmy Butler, Curry said his body is ready for the start of training camp.

"The idea of getting back to work is exciting," Curry said Wednesday. "I feel like I've taken advantage of the offseason. I feel like there's no hesitation about where I'm at physically going in. ... But I'm excited about getting back to work."
