Sugababes Announce First Album as Original Trio in 26 Years

Sugababes are finally releasing a new album—their first in 26 years to feature the original lineup of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan, and Siobhán Donaghy. On February 12, 2027, the UK girl group will put out their self-titled LP via Sacred Three/The Orchard. It will mark their second-ever album as an original trio. (Donaghy departed Sugababes between their 2000 debut, One Touch , and 2002’s Angels With Dirty Faces .) Their comeback single, “Ghost,” is out now with an accompanying video, and you can watch that below.

The new album’s press release hints at an eclectic mix of genres, including garage, amapiano, and R&B. “We knew from the beginning that we didn’t want to rush this record,” Sugababes said in a statement. “We’ve poured so much into the songs, the sound and every detail around it, and the more it came together, the clearer it became that there was only one thing we could call it: Sugababes . It feels unmistakably us. We’ve loved writing and recording this record, and we’re so excited that it’s finally time for people to hear it.”

Sugababes have famously changed their lineup four times over the years. The third switch-up was so severe that none of the original members were left when the band released their 2009 album, Sweet 7 . While that iteration of the group took a hiatus, Buena, Buchanan, and Donaghy starting working toward reclaiming the Sugababes name.

In 2012, they made a return to the stage as Mutya Keisha Siobhán (MKS), but they wouldn’t perform under the Sugababes alias until 2021. “[This comeback] is way more than just a financial thing for us. It is about restoring what was meant to be. And about justice,” Buchanan told the Guardian in 2023. “There’s been a lot of unfairness, a lot of things behind the scenes, and we felt like we had to reclaim back what was rightfully ours.”
