Murals was announced last month during the Gamescom Opening Live showcase. Created by indie studio Dlala, the game is “a twisted isometric action-adventure where fairytales have gone spectacularly wrong.”
“Sleeping Beauty hasn’t slept in weeks, Rapunzel’s hair is trying to kill her, and Rumpelstiltskin is… really into theater? These are not the tales you were told,” reads an official description of the game. “You wake up in a twisted fairytale castle, with no memory of who you are or how you got there. Your sole companion, a sentient sketch named Loaf, has just informed you that not only is there no clear escape but a bunch of monsters he’s named ‘The Distorted’ have just turned up.”
Comedy legend Bob Mortimer has also been confirmed for Murals , voicing an apothecary known as Magic Dave who’s in charge of the Vending Machine of Delights.
In a new interview with GamesIndustry , Dlala’s co-founder Aj Grand-Scrutton explained how they wrote Magic Dave as a Bob Mortimer “rip-off” before deciding to approach the comedian about being involved. After seeing a very early version of the script, he said yes.
“I’m not going to say we directed him [during the recording sessions], because he didn’t need it. Everything that came out of his mouth was perfect,” Grand-Scutton continued. “Honestly, the Bob Mortimer you see on television, he’s even a hundred times nicer and funnier than that in person.”
Murals is set to launch in 2027 for PC – pre-save it here .
During his appearance on Last One Laughing earlier this year, Mortimer revealed that he used to be a big gamer and loves the Resident Evil series . “Those first three are just so creepy. Killing people is just really good fun,” he said during a 2016 interview.
In other news, Sega has confirmed a new partnership with Netflix , with a trio of adaptations heading to the streamer in the near future – Crazy Taxi , Sonic The Hedgehog and Stranger Than Heaven . “The fandoms of these games deserve storytelling that honours what makes each title special, and we know Netflix shares that commitment,” said Sega president Shuji Utsumi.
