Taylor Swift Joins Mariska Hargitay for Surprise 2026 Emmys Sketch

Taylor Swift has made a surprise appearance at the 2026 Emmys , appearing alongside Mariska Hargitay for a Law & Order: SVU sketch.

The 2026 edition of the awards ceremony was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles last night (Monday September 14), and saw Widow’s Bay , The Pitt , and DTF St Louis among the big winners .

Hosted by Law & Order: SVU star Hargitay, there was a surprise appearance from Taylor Swift on the night, who popped up for a pre-taped sketch.

In the skit, Hargitay’s character Olivia Benson worked alongside her team to help crack a pressing mystery on the night: would Taylor Swift show up for a cameo at the Emmys?

“In order to crack a Swiftie case, you got to think like a Swiftie because the Swifties think that everything is a clue to what she’ll do next,” the host said, analysing the ways that the singer could be connected to the nominated shows on the night, and starting to lose hope that there wasn’t enough evidence to justify a cameo.

“Hey guys, this isn’t adding up,” another voice off-screen shared, before the camera panned over to Swift who was dressed in a business suit. “Our perp has a clear M.O… A lot of this doesn’t fit the pattern, and I don’t think everything is a clue.”

“I think what we’re going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight,” Swift added, before naming some Taylor Swift-inspired evidence including “Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard”.

As they drew the case to a close, Benson ultimately declared that “Taylor Swift will not be at the Emmys”, but “maybe she’s going to do one of those cool pre-taped sketch things to support the host”.

Hargitay is a longtime friend of Swift, with the actor previously joining Swift on her 2015 ‘1989’ tour, making a cameo in her 2014 ‘ Bad Blood ’ video, and in the crowd for her massive ‘Eras Tour’ in 2024 .

People also report that the two have named their cats after one another – with Swift naming a cat after Olivia Benson’s character, and Hargitay naming her cat after the Swift song ‘Karma’.

More recently, the two of them were seen watching the New York Knicks at the NBA Finals , and the actor also attended Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce in July.

Winners at the 2026 Emmys included Noah Wyle, who snagged Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second year in a row for The Pitt , having faced off against Paradise ’s Sterling K Brown, Slow Horses ’ Gary Oldman, Task’s Mark Ruffalo , and The Diplomat ’s Rufus Sewell.

Apple TV+ ’s breakout comedy horror series Widow’s Bay had an impressive showing with 19 nominations too, with lead actor Matthew Rhys making history after becoming the first person to win Emmys in two Lead Actor categories in the same year.

Joining him in making history was Hacks star Jean Smart, who picked up the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, making her the first woman to be victorious in the lead category for every season of her show’s run. Find all the winners here .

As for Swift, the singer dropped her most recent album ‘ The Life of a Showgirl ‘ last year, which was inspired by her experience on her record-breaking ‘Eras’ tour . It soon became the best-selling album of that year in the UK – making Swift the first artist to have the top seller in consecutive years for different albums since ABBA in 1977.

Since the album’s release, Swift has become the youngest female artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame , invited Graham Norton, Lewis Capaldi, and Cillian Murphy for her ‘Opalite’ music video , and filed to trademark her own voice and image after growing concerns about AI .

She also donated $26million (£19.5million) to 20 charities across the United States ahead of her marriage to Travis Kelce earlier this year, and more recently donated $50,000 (£37,000) to a GoFundMe page to help a mother that was hit by a car.
