Bonniesongs Unveils "Scream," a Peculiar New Track from the "Ethereal Grunge" Artist

Bonniesongs is the musical moniker of Irish-born, Australian-based multi-instrumentalist Bonnie Stewart, who has classified her off-kilter songwriting as "ethereal grunge." Today, she returned with a peculiar banger called "Scream."

"Scream" stumbles forward. A grumbling guitar saunters alongside Stewart's flexible vocal coos. There's a steady kick drum that keeps the song from falling apart. Droplets of piano and xylophone chimes taunt it. As the song lurches toward its end, hell begins to break loose.

Stewart shared, via Bandcamp, that the song "is about being overwhelmed, anxious and completely at your limit, but somehow being dragged through it all anyway. The wordless chorus is a kind of manic optimism, pretending everything’s fine and carrying on with your day. The grungy, rocky sound is threaded with chaotic chromatic elements and toy piano, an ode to my time in the circus, while looping Shepard tones add a surreal, disorienting feeling. As the song progresses, it becomes increasingly unhinged, finally starting to crumble apart."
