Call of Duty to conclude ‘Modern Warfare’ series with this year’s release

It seems that Call Of Duty is set to end its beloved Modern Warfare series with the release of Modern Warfare 4 later this year.

The original Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare was released in 2007 and spawned two more sequels before the series was rebooted in 2019. With a focus on more contemporary conflicts, the Modern Warfare games have become some of the best-selling titles in Call Of Duty history.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch October 23 (though players who pre-order will be able to explore the single-player campaign from October 16) and, according to publishers Activision, will be the “ epic conclusion ” to the series.

Yesterday, Activision also shared a new story trailer for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 that introduced gamers to Mads Mikkelsen’s antagonist The Archer. It’s also been confirmed that several characters will be making a return.

“In the Modern Warfare 4 Campaign, you fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad. What begins as a routine mission descends into chaos when North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, forcing Park and his unit into a desperate battle through collapsing cities and counteroffensives,” reads an official description of the game’s single-player story.

“Beyond the front lines, operator-turned-outlaw Captain Price is operating outside the system he once served. A hunt for revenge draws Price toward a weapon powerful enough to shift the balance of power, setting in motion a conflict far greater than he ever anticipated. Forced into uneasy alliances and off-book operations, Price is pulled deeper into consequences he can no longer escape,” the description continues. “From large-scale battles and covert missions to combined-arms warfare and cinematic set pieces, the campaign delivers grounded combat and gameplay variety across a war that spreads far beyond the front lines.”

Earlier this year it was confirmed that the upcoming Call Of Duty movie adaptation would be based on Modern Warfare .

The Call Of Duty movie is due to hit cinemas June 20, 2028. According to a joint statement from Activision and Paramount, the live-action Call Of Duty film is “designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series” but will also “expand the franchise to entirely new audiences.”
