Daydream Plus’ Chiptune Remix Album Now Streaming After NES Cartridge Exclusive

Emo math-rockers Daydream Plus have made their video game-inspired remix album available to stream after previously releasing it as a NES cartridge.

Daydream Plus, which features members of death metal group Tomb Mold, released their debut album ‘Second Last Day Of Summer’ in July. The gorgeous instrumental record was inspired by Jimmy Eat World and American Football as well as math-rock pioneers Lightning Bolt and Don Caballero. The group also took inspiration from chiptune groups Anamanaguchi and Diasterpeace, who create high-energy electronic music using retro games consoles, and iconic gaming soundtracks such as Final Fantasy 7 , EarthBound and Sonic Adventure .

As well as ‘Second Last Day Of Summer’, Daydream Plus created chiptune remix album ‘Extended Forecast’ which reimagined the original songs as 8-bit video game tracks. For the past three months, ‘Extended Forecast’ has only been available as a working NES cartridge but now fans who don’t have a working retro Nintendo console at home can stream ‘Second Last Day Of Summer: Extended Forecast’.

After selling out of the original run of NES cartridges, Run For Cover records have announced a second run – pre-orders are available here .

“ I love owning physical media ,” Daydream Plus’ Payson Power told NME earlier this year. “It’s a sign of respect to the artist, especially in an age where things are so disposable.” It comes after Rockstar Games confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 would not be getting a proper physical release when it launches in November and PlayStation has announced that it’s abandoning disc releases altogether from January 2028. “It sucks and it’s scary,” Power said. “Digital means you only ever own a license to play [that can be revoked at any time] and with Day One updates [that fix overlooked bugs] becoming more frequent, we all get an inferior product. It just rewards greed and corporate bullshit.”
