Beloved Boston punks will spend six weeks on the road this winter across the U.S. and Canada

For a band as synonymous with their hometown as Dropkick Murphys are with Boston, they can’t seem to stay there very long. Fresh off a seven-week European tour — and gearing up for two weeks in Australia and New Zealand with Chicago hardcore outfit Rise Against — the Dropkicks will embark on a six-week North American trek: 2027’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Tour.

At this point, the seven-piece Celtic-punk band is probably known as much for their Woody Guthrie-penned hit “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” — which was featured in Martin Scorsese’s 2006 hit The Departed — as they are for singer Ken Casey’s proud pro-union, anti-MAGA stance, which he makes crystal clear every night from the stage. (He recently made headlines for criticizing Ed Sheerhan for “taking the knee” when Robert Kraft demanded the singer drop Macklemore from his tour. “That’s not how Dropkick Murphys would operate,” he said.)

For most of the tour, which starts Feb. 5 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Dropkicks will be joined by Canadian street punks Home Front, along with San Francisco post-punks Spiritual Cramp (for those unfamiliar, their recent collab with Sharon Van Etten, “You’ve Got My Number,” is a great New Wave-tinged entry-point). One date, however — their March 10 bill in Springfield, Massachusetts — won’t have a backing band at all. Instead, they’ll be playing a show immediately after the Springfield Thunderbirds, the local minor-league hockey team, hits the ice. Tickets for that set are available only as a twofer, paired up with seats for the game, via the team’s website. The rest will be available via DropkickMurphys.com on Friday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. local time. (You may notice that there aren’t any dates listed for Boston proper, but those should be coming soon.)

The band, which has put out more than a dozen studio albums over 30 years, most recently released the LP For the People in 2025; earlier this year, they put out a split, New England Forever, with fellow Boston punks Haywire, where they went back to their harder roots. In November, they’ll have a track on 20th Century Paddy:The Songs Of Shane MacGowan , a tribute album for the late Pogues singer. Can’t wait till next year to see them live? They’ll also be appearing at Tom Morello’s Power to the People Festival on Oct. 3, near Washington, D.C.
