Floating Points' Sunflower Sound System to Debut in US at Head Trip This October

Floating Points’ Sunflower Sound System, a custom hi-fi environment with a spatial sound system to deliver an immersive experience, will make its U.S. debut at Head Trip in Indio, California, this October.

Sunflower’s programming features artists whose sound and record culture “reflect the sonic breadth the system was built to encourage.” In addition to a set from Floating Points, the Sunflower Sound System will feature Avalon Emerson, Ben UFO and Eris Drew & Octo Octa. Other artists to utilize the unique Sunflower space include Four Tet, Mad Professor, Theo Parrish and music supervisor and curator Zach Cowie.

Head Trip, which is produced by Goldenvoice, takes place at Empire Polo Club Oct. 10-11, and the programming at Sunflower Sound System runs from 3 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Sunday.

“I’m so psyched to bring the system to Head Trip – a lot of the inspiration for the design of the system started with hifi and PA companies founded in CA over 75 years ago and it’s an honour to host some jams in the desert with the Sunflower!” Floating Points, whose real name is Sam Shepherd, said in a statement. “We have a sweet lineup of DJs to share music with yall, and we’ve even made some tweaks to the system such as brand new flying tweeter arrays and infill speakers to help with the dispersion. The system is a labour of love and it’s constantly being monitored by our engineers who will be tweaking things as we go. We’ve made a giant mechanical mirrorball ‘Cosmosphere’ which blooms when the jam is really going and tapestries from Josephine!”

This year’s Head Trip boasts a stacked lineup headlined by Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia. Other artists on the bill include FISHER + Chris Lake: Under Construction, Skrillex, Peggy Gou B2B Four Tet, Dom Dolla B2B KETTAMA, Seth Troxler B2B Ben Sterling, The Blessed Madonna and DJ Harvey.
