Oceans Calling Festival Cancels Day One Due to Weather and Site Erosion

Oceans Calling festival has announced that day one of the festival, headlined by Dave Matthews Band and Hootie & The Blowfish, will take place, due to continued weather in the vicinity “including beach erosion that affected the festival site.”

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of our production, site, safety teams, and the city staff/officials the impacts of this week’s continued weather, including beach erosion that affected the festival site, have made it impossible to safely complete the build in time for Friday,” the festival in Ocean City, Maryland, announced on its social channels today. The festival is produced by C3 Presents.

“As a result, Friday will not move forward as planned. The safety of our fans, artists, crew, and community must come first. 1-Day Friday Tickets and 33% of 3-Day Tickets purchased directly through Front Gate Tickets will be automatically refunded in as little as 30 days to the original method of payment.”

The announcement says to “Please continue to follow our official channels for updates. We are working very hard to get the show up for the remainder of the weekend, and hoping the conditions improve.”

Weather surrounding the resort town has been severe, with wind gusts reportedly reaching 50mph and coastal flooding as the East Coast braces for a powerful nor-easter.

Saturday’s lineup is topped by Twenty One Pilots and Gwen Stefani, with additional artists including Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind, and many others. Sunday is headlined by Mumford & Sons and Matchbox Twenty, with additional musical talent including CAAMP, My Morning Jacket, The Head And The Heart and many others.

Last weekend saw significant weather disruption to multiple major music festivals, affecting events including Riot Fest in Chicago, Shaky Knees in Atlanta and Louder Than Life in Louisville. Goldenvoice’s Ocean Way Festival in Santa Monica, California, was canceled weeks before its debut citing the effects of Hurricane Marie and beach erosion. That event was to be headlined by The Killers and Olivia Dean, also featuring Jack White, Khruangbin, Sublime and more.
