Kid Rock Hopes Eminem Collaboration Shows Friendship Above Politics

Newly minted Christian rocker Kid Rock gave an explanation on why Eminem , not the most religious rapper around to say the least, came to be featured on an upcoming album, Halfway to Jesus. Rock’s reasoning seemed aimed at those he knew would doubt his sincerity and question if the collaboration is even legit.

On October 1st, Kid Rock shared the tracklist for Halfway to Jesus , revealing that the real Slim Shady will be featured on the song “7 Sins.”

While the two have collaborated in the past, the pairing has new context. Kid Rock, a vocal political conservative who has supported Donald Trump , is standing with Eminem, who has no love for the current president and eviscerated him in a 2017 rap on the BET Hip Hop awards.

“I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem,” Kid Rock wrote. “His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all . . . We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently.”

The pair’s friendship has been put on wax before. Eminem was featured on Kid Rock’s song “Fuck Off” from 1998’s Devil Without a Cause , while Kid Rock appeared in the video for Marshall Mathers’ “Berzerk” in 2013.

Kid Rock has released the first single, “James 1:17 (Jesus is King),” from Halfway to Jesus ahead of its October 17th release date.
