Natanael Cano on Musical Inspiration, Studio Drive, and Mexico’s Support

Natanael Cano opens pu about what inspires him most: music, the studio energy and chasing songs that last. In this Billboard News interview, the musician also shouts out Mexico’s support and shares his pre-show mindset.

Natanael Cano reflects on recording and composing, explains why great songs don’t go out of style and reacts to a fan-favorite track. Plus, he shares a quick list of influences, name-checking Tupac, DMX and Chalino Sánchez.

Natanael Cano: Thanks. I’m doing really badass. I’m flowing Tupac, DMX, Chalino Sánchez, Natanael Cano, around there — but everything was improvised, just so you know. This was what I had to wear today and I put it on real badass. Walking with swagger. Olivia, the skinny girl, she’s coming around so people can wait for her and people are gonna enjoy her a lot like me. Arm tattooed full black, on the skull they bring me molichán. Like all the players who sing there, which is Víctor, it’s Ovi, it’s Tito, me. We killed it, honestly it’s really cool, a song for all the crew, really tight. Pure happiness, pure peace. Right now here, well moments before the tragedy, honestly. We’re already hyped up, people are waiting for me.

I’m ready, we’re gonna give them everything we got. I have one little thing, it’s this life and the next one. Mexico never lets me down, Mexico always supports, always has my back. And it’s something I don’t know how to thank the crew for, honestly. And well we’re gonna keep making music around here and giving what we got.

What inspires me? Music, music is what inspires me, the energy that music transmits, the moment when we record, when we compose, when we’re in the studio, when we’re making a track. Music when it enters, it enters and I can’t get it out anymore, so music is always the music and I’m happy making music, listening to it and enjoying it, which is what we like.
