Official 'Glee' Reboot Is in the Works
A reboot of the musical comedy-drama series 'Glee' is officially in development.

Glee is headed in new directions. After much teasing, Ryan Murphy’s proposed reboot of the chaotic musical dramedy that brought us satiric one-liners such as “There is nothing ironic about show choir” and “Who is Josh Groban? Kill yourself” is officially in the works.

As announced Wednesday (Oct. 21), the revamp will land on Disney+ and Hulu after the streamers gave Murphy a series order, Deadline reports. The original show, which lasted six seasons — from 2009 to 2015 — aired on Fox.
The news was shared with Gleeks on social media with a post from Glee ‘s official account reading, “Currently gleeking out!” alongside a photo of the show’s famous “L” hand gesture. “Glee is returning,” the poster adds.
Murphy has been teasing throughout this year that he was considering resurrecting his popular TV program, revealing in September that he’d taken major steps to get it rolling. “Just finished the script an hour ago” he told Entertainment Tonight at the season premiere of American Horror Story , another of his long-running shows. “Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.”
“I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members,” he also noted at the time. “It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”
Led by Lea Michele as Rachel Berry, the original Glee starred Cory Monteith as Finn Hudson, Naya Rivera as Santana Lopez, Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel and Dianna Agron as Quinn Fabray, as well as Matthew Morrison as high-school show-choir coach Mr. Schuester and Jane Lynch as villainous cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester. Monteith died before the show wrapped due to an accidental overdose in 2013. Seven years later, Rivera passed away in an accidental drowning.
It’s unknown who in the OG cast will return, but Michele did hint in September that she’s open to the idea. “I will always love Glee ,” she told E! News at a New York Fashion Week event. “I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me. I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”
Winning six Emmys and four Golden Globes, Glee was just as massive in the music industry as it was in television. At one point, the cast had more Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other act , with more than 200 entries. To date, only Drake, Taylor Swift and Future have surpassed them — for now. With the reboot, the New Directions and company might just be back in the race.
