Placebo to Tour South America in 2027, Celebrating Early Albums

Placebo have announced a 2027 tour of Latin America celebrating their first two albums, with shows across Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Mexico.

The run forms part of the band’s ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations and will see Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal revisit material from their self-titled 1996 debut and 1998 follow-up ‘Without You I’m Nothing’, including tracks that have not regularly appeared in their live sets for years.

It begins at São Paulo’s Suhai Music Hall on February 20 before heading to Brasília, Curitiba and Porto Alegre. Shows in Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima and Bogotá follow in March, before the tour concludes with dates in Guadalajara and Monterrey.

Announcing the shows on Instagram, the band wrote: “We are very pleased to announce we will be returning to tour Latin America next year.”

In a video accompanying the announcement, Olsdal looked back at how the release of ‘Placebo’ marked the point at which the group began expanding beyond the London circuit.

“1996, when the album came out, that’s when we started to play shows outside of the UK,” he said. “Up until then, we did pubs, small venues, you know, the whole Camden circuit, Dublin Castle, etc. And for us, the world was much bigger than the UK. We never saw ourselves as a British band.”

The new dates continue the anniversary tour Placebo announced earlier this year , which is due to begin in Europe later this month. Those shows will similarly focus on the band’s first two records, bringing back early favourites such as ‘Nancy Boy’, ‘Teenage Angst’, ‘Pure Morning’ and ‘Every You Every Me’, as well as songs that have not been performed for more than 20 years.

The celebrations have also seen Placebo release ‘RE’ in June, a reworking of their 1996 debut built using the original master tapes.

“We think of this record as a director’s cut,” the band explained when announcing the project . “We haven’t recreated it from scratch. We went back to the original master tapes and brought 30 years of playing these songs live back into the record.”

Olsdal previously spoke to NME about ‘Without You I’m Nothing’ for its 20th anniversary , describing the second album as “more quintessentially ‘Placebo’ than the first one”.

“The band had a chance to really delve into its identity and get focused on the music, the songwriting and what we wanted to convey to the world,” he said. “With the second album, some of the chemicals had worn off and we were faced with ourselves.”

Fans can sign up for the tour’s fan pre-sales through Placebo’s official website .

For Brazil, the fan pre-sale begins on September 29 at 10am local time. A 48-hour early-bird sale begins the following morning at 10am, with the full general sale opening on October 2 at 10am.

Fan pre-sales for Argentina and Chile began yesterday (September 22) at midday local time, with general sales opening tomorrow (September 24) at midday. Colombia’s general sale also opens tomorrow at 9am local time, while tickets for the Mexican dates go on general sale at 11am.

The Peru fan pre-sale begins today (September 23) at 10am local time, followed by general sale on September 26 at 10am. Get tickets here .

The band’s most recent studio album was 2022’s ‘Never Let Me Go’. In a four-star review , NME called it “a renaissance rock record with an experimental edge” and Placebo’s “best and most consistent album since 2006’s dark, intoxicated ‘Meds’”.
