Baby Wave Channels ’90s Fuzz-Pop on New Single "The Scene Is Changing"

Most of us over here dig Soccer Mommy, right? Now, try to imagine how Soccer Mommy's earlier records might've sounded if they had really big '90s-style fuzz-pop choruses. If that were to happen, you might get something like the new single from Baby Wave, a Nashville trio who just signed a brand new deal with Saddle Creek.

Baby Wave formed at a 2021 Christmas party and became part of Nashville's underground. They've already got a handful of singles and EPs to their name, the most recent of which is still life , a 2024 collaboration with Total Wife. Now, Baby Wave are on Saddle Creek and getting ready to release a full-length, and Feeble Little Horse's Sebastian Kinsler produced their catchy, propulsive new single "The Scene Is Changing." In a press release, bandleader book NOT brooke had this to say:

> You can spend your entire life on the outside, feeling like you’ll never belong, and even if you do find “the scene” for a moment in time, you can spend the rest of your life jaded or living in the past. Every scene is destined to bloom and fizzle. I think it matters to honor that cycle for what it is. When we wrote this song, it felt like a character study, but now it rings truer than ever, and it makes me emotional every time. It feels like an ode to the ever-changing Nashville DIY scene.

book NOT brooke directed the band's video for "The Scene Is Changing," shooting it at the Nashville house show venue known as Ryman 2 — amazing name. The cast includes members of Nashville bands like Impediment, McKay, Sabby, Soot, Superhero, Total Wife, and Venus And The Flytraps, and the story involves an owl-man who has what looks like a fun, bewildering time at a Baby Wave show. Below, you'll find that clip and Baby Wave's tour dates.
