Aftershock Festival Sells Out, Concluding Record Year for Danny Wimmer Presents

Aftershock Festival in Sacramento sold out with 180,000 attendees over four days Oct. 1-4, according to promoter Danny Wimmer Presents, capping a year of nearly 1.1 million attendees at the company’s 2026 festivals.

The 14th year of the decidedly rock, metal and punk festival was the biggest yet, bringing together a record-breaking crowd to Sacramento’s Discovery Park to see 140-plus artists on five stages, this year introducing a whole new Point Stage and expansive camping options near the event.

Topped by My Chemical Romance, Tool, Limp Bizkit and Pierce The Veil, Aftershock offered the chock-full lineup it has become known for, making it the place to be for anyone involved with or partaking in heavy rock culture. This means the action starts early on Thursday and does not let up until the very end, which this year was closed out with a mesmerizing set from influential art-metal pioneers Tool.

Enthusiastic metal-heads gathered from all 50 states and more than 30 countries generated an estimated $40 million in local economic impact, according to DWP. Fans from all over felt the heat of the weekend, where temperatures reached nearly 100 degrees on Saturday, but were not bothered, with a noted youthful energy for Saturday’s lineup topped by Pierce The Veil and supplemented by similar energy from bands including Circa Survive, A Day To Remember, Chiodos, Saosin and many others, with many a mosh pit and stage diving (although stage diving was discouraged by many signs throughout the site).

Friday saw Limp Bizkit top a notably rap-heavy bill that also prominently featured Wu Tang Clan, Three 6 Mafia, Public Enemy, Suicideboys, and Insane Clown Posse, with fans eating up and serving back the energy as a resurgent Limp Bizkit more than secured headliner status in 2026 to close out the evening.

Thursday’s lineup continued to reflect the influence and drawing power of emo titans My Chemical Romance, with a diverse lineup throughout the day including favorites and heavy draws like The Offspring, Sublime, The Used, New Found Glory, Killswitch Engage and many others.

Sunday was similarly curated, with Tool coming after a triumphant, energetic Queens Of The Stone Age whirlwind, enough that frontman Josh Homme thought it was still Saturday, adding that every day is Saturday when you’re having such a good time.

There was plenty on display for anyone casually involved or interested in rock or heavy metal, from sludge pioneers the Melvins crushing The Point stage at 3:30, and Pentagram welcoming some of the “old heads” and early arrivers enjoying the unique, bug-eyed stage presence of frontman Bobby Liebling.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s sunset set featured film composer and heavy metal oddity Danny Elfman, accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra, full rock band featuring members of Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle, where the composer not only performed fan favorites like the “Simpsons” and “Batman” themes but his own solo material and Oingo Boingo hits, shirtless, covered in tattoos and performing menacingly.

The sheer volume of artists with real drawing power means planning ahead and finding a spot early or potentially missing killer sets by Coheed and Cambria or local favorites Dance Gavin Dance for those in attendance not paying enough attention (or taking a needed water break).

On site in addition to the music, fans this year were able to enjoy the Tremors Dive Bar, an air-conditioned dive with drinks and music, the Jack’s House karaoke trailer from Jack Daniel’s, and brand-new attractions like the Cantina del Diablo, an open-air spot serving Mexican street fare, tequila and mezcal cocktails, and cold cerveza that was hosted by Jose “Metal Ambassador” Mangin.

There was also a new Overtime Sports Bar, Body Art Express mobile tattoo shop and Aftershock x Jungle Bird Tiki Bar covering the full festival weekend, bringing Sacramento’s favorite tiki bar onsite with curated cocktails. New this year was an expansive campsite at the nearby Cal Expo, a usual shuttle spot not far from the festival grounds and including multiple tent, RV and car parking options.

In June, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved a 10-year agreement between Sacramento County and Danny Wimmer Presents, authorizing DWP to host up to three multi-day festivals annually at Discovery Park through 2035. A second Sacramento weekend event is planned for 2027, with the Golden Sky country music festival set to return.

This year’s Sacramento festival event followed up on the recent dual-weekend Louisville smash for DWP, with the company’s Louder Than Life rock festival and multi-genre Bourbon & Beyond festivals drawing a combined 415,000 attendees over their two weekends, Sept. 17-20 and Sept. 24-27, respectively. Despite a brief weather delay and evacuation during Louder Than Life on its Friday, the Louisville events similarly featured top talent and experiences and made a huge impact to the city, with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear joining state officials and industry leaders onstage to announce a Governor’s Office of Music, a new department dedicated to highlighting the state’s music legacy and supporting artists, venues, festivals and businesses.

With more than 300 artists performing over the eight days of music, DWP says the events generated $40 million in economic impact for Kentucky.

Bourbon & Beyond was named winner of festival of the year last night at the IEBA Conference awards in Nashville and in 2024 won the Pollstar Award for Music Festival of the Year.  This year’s lineup was topped by Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, Chris Stapleton and Dave Matthews Band.
