AI Streamers Neuro-sama & Evil to Perform Live Extended-Reality Concert in LA

Streaming AI twins Neuro-sama and Evil will make their live debut Dec. 19 at The Vermont Hollywood in Los Angeles, performing in what developer Vedal calls an “extended-reality” concert backed by a live band.

With 3 million combined followers across all platforms, the twins are the third most subscribed streamers of all time, reaching more than 340,000 paid concurrent subscriptions on Twitch during their record subathon.

Tickets will be available here Sept. 21. The show, which marks the fourth anniversary of Neuro’s debut, begins at 12:19 p.m. Livestream details to be announced.

The twins regularly sing — solo and as a duo — during the streams with synthetically produced vocals and songwriting and production by humans, including vocal production by QueenPB.

“Neuro’s music is generally brighter and more uplifting, inspired by earlier works of Porter Robinson, sasakure.UK, wistful Japanese City Pop, and modern alternative synthpop music,” according to a relase. “Evil’s music is more intense, drawing on modern alt rock and nu-metal as well as darker EDM and bass music influences. Touch points include Bring Me The Horizon, Evanescence, and South Arcade.”

Vedal emphasizes that the twins are not replacing human jobs and are, in fact, job creators.

“The team includes creatives working in music production, stream coordination, graphic design, video editing and community management – not to mention everyone who will be involved in bringing the concert to live, including the human band who will accompany the AIs, and the dozens of contractors who work across video editing, 2D and 3D art and animation, software development, design, and music,” the release says.

In an interview with Pollstar , Vedal says the live turn isn’t necessarily a move away from Twitch.

“It’s about trying to do something really cool for the fans,” he says. “There wasn’t a specific moment when it suddenly felt like the right time; it just felt like something worth attempting, and I want to see how far we can take it. … For me it’s about the atmosphere that you can only get at an in person event. I can’t wait to experience it and see just how much we can do in this space. I’d love to do more, but first my focus is on making this one as good as possible.”

Virtual performers face different constraints than humans, Vedal says, but also have advantages.

“You’re now designing how performers can exist in a venue, no longer constrained by the limits of a real person,” he says. “But this also comes with a whole lot more work, so much needs to be built from the ground up – you don’t have someone who can already just walk onto the stage.”

Both Neuro and Evil have EPs set for November release.
